1. Where can I use Randy Walker Metal Art tiles?
Answer: The tiles have been installed both outside and inside. They have been used in kitchens, bathrooms, foyers, floors and walls. These tiles are decorative and can be used like any other ceramic or stone decorative tile. Remember that they are metal tiles so while unlikely to break, they are subject to scratching and abrasion depending on their placement. Finishes are also subject to dramatic change if harsh chemicals are applied.
2. How do I install, care and maintain Randy Walker Metal Art?
Answer: Randy Walker Metal Art tiles are installed exactly as you would install any ceramic tile or stone. The embossed logo on the back of every tile acts as a grid for adhesive materials. We suggest during installation that you cover the metal tile with masking tape before grouting and during cleanup so as to protect the tile and the finish. We suggest using very mild soapy water with a sponge for regular care and maintenance.
3. Will the finishes change over time?
Answer: As with any metals that are exposed to water, heat, cold, or other harsh conditions, the patinas on the brass and bronze tiles may change over time. But as the tiles age, like metal from the Middle Ages etc., they should only get more beautiful with time. The antique black aluminum tiles should show very little change over time. Finishes are subject to dramatic change if harsh chemicals are applied.
4. Aren't metal tiles too heavy?
Answer: Randy Walker Metal Art tiles were developed to weigh similarly to stone tiles of the same size and shape. The aluminum tiles in fact are extremely light in weight.
5. Have Randy Walker Metal Art tiles been tested by the ASTM or ANSI?
Answer: No. The tiles may not meet performance and minimum coefficient of friction thresholds recommended by safety standards setting organizations. Check local building codes prior to specification or installation to verify that product technical characteristics comply with required parameters.
6. Will each tile have the exact same finish upon installation?
Answer: Not necessarily. Randy Walker Metal Art makes every effort to insure uniform finishes. However, because of the artisan, hand crafted nature of this product, there is an inherent lack of uniformity and the tiles are subject to small variations in aesthesis (color, shade, finish, etc). It is our experience that customers appreciate the small variations in color and finish as it demonstrates the hand made nature of the product and adds to the one of a kind beauty of the tiles.
7. Are the tile measurements exact as stated?
Answer: No. There is a nominal difference in size of approximately 1/8 inch smaller than the size listed in every tile i.e. a 6" x 6" tile measures approximately 5 and 7/8 inches by 5 and 7/8 inches. This is done to accommodate grout etc and is an industry accepted standard. Every tile is industry standard 5/16 inch thick.
8. I have a question not answered here. What do I do?
